On April 3, 1968 gave a prophetic speech in front of a large crowd at a black church in Memphis, Tennessee. The next night he stepped out onto the balcony of his motel and at 6pm was shot in the neck. In 1983 president Ronald Reagan signed a bill making Martin Luther King JuniorŐs birthday a federal holiday. Today we celebrate Martin Luther King JuniorŐs birthday in memory and honor of a man who changed the world, a man who fought for rights and stayed peaceful and confident even when he and his friends were beaten and imprisoned.
